Effective August 12, 2024, the Vehicle Inspection and Vehicle Control Skills portions of the CDL Skills Test will be updated to the requirements listed in the Commercial Driver’s License Manual (September 9, 2022). The Manual, a new Indiana Specific CDL Information manual and supporting documents will be accessible on the BMV website (BMV.IN.GOV) beginning June 10, 2024.
The updates to the CDL skills test include:
- Applicants may use the CDL vehicle inspection checklist(s) provided in section 11M of the Manual and are only required to inspect items that are listed on the checklists:
- Class A Tractor Semi-Trailer or Truck & Trailer or Bus & Trailer checklist
- Class B or Class C Passenger or School Bus checklist
- Class B or Class C Straight Truck or Other Straight Vehicle checklist
The below diagrams represent the updated Basic Control Skills Test requirements provided in section 12M of the Manual. The On-road Driving portion of the CDL Skills Test will remain the same.
June 10, 2024, the following will be available on the BMV website:
- Commercial Driver’s License Manual (September 9, 2022)
- Indiana Specific CDL Manual
- Class A Tractor Semi-Trailer or Truck & Trailer or Bus & Trailer checklist
- Class B or Class C Passenger or School Bus checklist
- Class B or Class C Straight Truck or Other Straight Vehicle checklist
